Steve Davis made a less than impressive opening appearance in this year's Premier League, the six-times world champion suffering a whitewash at the hands of Ding Jun-Hui in Crawley.
The 19-year-old from China recorded a 6-0 victory against Davis, the man he also defeated to win the UK Championship in York last December.
And week three of the new season proved a fruitless one for the veterans of the green baise, with Jimmy White losing the evening's second match against Ken Doherty 4-2.
Davis had looked likely to take the opening frame against Ding, a break of 46 allowing the Romford man to establish a 27-point lead.
But, aided by a snooker, Ding fought back with a clearance to snatch a 1-0 lead.
Both players missed simple chances in the 26 minute-long frame two, Ding building a break of 37 before suffering a kick.
Davis's hopes of a comeback were then thwarted by a missed green, his opponent rattling through the remaining five colours to extend his lead further.
The 49-year-old then looked likely to pull a frame back after establishing a 56-point lead in frame three.
But, on the very red that would have left his opponent requiring snookers, Davis instead snookered himself, with Ding fighting back with a break of 57 for a 3-0 lead.
Ding then pulled out a 42 point lead to make his lead unassailable, Davis conceding the fifth before the whitewash was hastily completed.
The in-form Doherty then raced through his opening frame White, before the Londoner levelled the match.
But the 1997 world champion then took a 3-1 lead, the fourth frame a scrappy affair with White guilty of missing a number of simple chances.
Doherty then took the fifth frame to ensure himself victory, with White sweetening defeat to the tune of £2000 by taking the sixth and final frame of the evening.
