The Tigers ran in six tries to inflict only the second defeat of Bristol's season and move ahead on points difference.
A drop goal two minutes from time by Chris Malone earned Bath a precious 18-16 Guinness Premiership win to kick-start Christmas celebrations on the Rec.

Northampton hauled themselves further away from the bottom of the Guinness Premiership table by snatching a famous 8-6 win over Wasps.
The Saints were on the back-foot for long spells and trailed 6-3 when England hooker Steve Thompson was sent to the sin-bin.
But their one decent spell coincided with Phil Vickery being sin-binned for stamping and they drove Daniel Browne over in the 53rd minute for the clinching try to add to Carlos Spencer's early penalty.
Richard Hill made a winning return to Guinness Premiership action as Ben Skirving's last-gasp try was enough to give Saracens a hard-fought 20-16 win over Harlequins.
Early tries from Thomas Castaignede and Kameli Ratuvou put Saracens in control but the boot of Adrian Jarvis and a Michael Brown try gave Quins the lead with 10 minutes to go.
But Saracens had the last laugh when Skirving struck with two minutes remaining as the away side recorded their sixth win in their last seven games.
At Sixways, a dazzling display of kicking from Barry Everitt secured London Irish a hard-earned 16-14 victory over Worcester to ease their relegation concerns.
