Califano extends Gloucester stay  Latest Transfer

Gloucester prop Christian Califano has confirmed that he will be staying at the Kingsholm club until the end of the 2007/08 campaign.

The 34-year-old joined this summer on a two-year deal which included an option for either party to terminate the contract after the first year.

But Gloucester and the Frenchman, who won 68 caps for his country, have moved quickly to extend the stay.

"I'm really happy to confirm my second year," he told the club's website.

We have an extremely talented group of players that will challenge for major honours over the next 18 months.

"I've enjoyed settling in at the club and playing in front of the Shed at Kingsholm - it's an unbelievable atmosphere and really gets me fired up. Believe me, the best is yet to come."

Califano has made 11 appearances in all competitions for Gloucester so far this season and has been voted in the all-time best French front row.

"Since his arrival he has integrated seamlessly into the club and has provided real guidance and leadership both on and off the field, particularly to our young players," said head coach Dean Ryan.

"His performances have been strong and his ability to play at both tight- and loose-head prop gives us real flexibility on the field."
