White admits Leicester interest  Latest Transfer

South Africa boss Jake White has admitted he might be interested in taking over as head coach of Leicester.

The Tigers are keen to hold on to current boss Pat Howard, who is planning to return home to Australia at the end of the season.

But they are believed to have held talks with White, who wants to take the Springboks to the 2007 World Cup.

White, who saw his side beat a World XV in Leicester at the weekend, said: "After the World Cup, you never know."

He added: "It's been a great experience in Leicester."

White's Springboks side have just completed a tour of Europe with mixed results.

He survived a vote of no confidence at a South Africa Rugby Union (Saru) meeting in Cape Town at the end of last month.

And he has been heavily criticised by Saru deputy president Mike Stofile over his handling of young hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle.

Stofile said Ralepelle, who was appointed captain for the 32-7 win over the World XV on Sunday, was being used as a political pawn.

"The appointment was politicking by White, "said Stofile.

606 DEBATE: Is White the right man for Leicester?
"Ralepelle had played a mere five minutes of Test rugby all year before Sunday, with the coach playing his favourite, John Smit, at hooker in every match.

"White gives preferential treatment to certain players and as a result the best teams do not get selected."

Meanwhile, South African team manager Zola Yeye slammed the number of old-style South African flags seen during their time in England.

The old flags - orange, white and blue stripes - were changed after the fall of Apartheid.

The Star newspaper quoted Yeye as saying the flags had been "sadly prominent" in England and on their return home.

"It was embarrassing to see so many of the flags being waved around.

"Look at this Springbok team. These are young men of 23 and 24 and they don't want to be subjected to memories of the Apartheid system."

The Johannesburg-based daily also claimed regular Springbok captain Smit had been sworn at in Afrikaans after he refused to sign an old South African flag before the Springboks' second match against England at Twickenham on 25 November.
