Brave Inca too good for Iktitaf  Latest Transfer

Brave Inca held off Iktitaf to win the Grade One Festival Hurdle for the second straight year at Leopardstown.

Ruby Walsh took the 6-4 shot into an early lead alongside Silent Oscar in the four-runner contest over two miles.

The 4-6 favourite Iktitaf closed in after the final hurdle but Brave Inca kicked on again to win by 1¼ lengths with 100-1 shot Silent Oscar in third.

Brave Inca is now as short as 7-2 to defend his Champion Hurdle crown at Cheltenham next March.

Detroit City remains favourite for the race while Iktitaf's odds have drifted out to about 10-1.

Iktitaf, trained by Noel Meade, had beaten Brave Inca when the pair met in the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown last month.

But the Colm Murphy-trained Brave Inca, who was being ridden for the first time by Walsh, got the better of last season's star novice on this occasion, landing his ninth Grade One win in the process.
