 HUGHES STRIKES AGAIN  Latest Transfer

Richard Hughes has been riding brilliantly at Lingfield this week and added his seventh win at the track in three days of racing with a well-timed success on Ifatfirst in the opening pontinsbingo.com Handicap.

Theologicum and then Recalcitrant set the muddling early pace and although the latter was still leading inside the final furlong, Hughes came through smoothly in the closing stages to best his rival by a neck.

Sent off the 5-2 favourite, Ifatfirst was breaking his duck at the sixth attempt.

Trainer Marcus Tregoning's representative Richard Gaskell said: "It did not look a great contest but he has done it well. The mile and a half suited and hopefully he will not go up much in the weights."

Another rider in form is Brett Doyle, who kept his nerve to take the IQ Project Solutions Ltd Median Auction Maiden Stakes aboard Iron Pearl (4-1).

Doyle remained locked on the inside rail as Tilapia cut out much of the running and made his move over a furlong out.

They pulled away smartly for a two-and-a-half-length success over Tilapia, providing Jane Chapple-Hyam with a welcome first win in 121 days.

Part-owner Toby Brereton said: "She settled well today, much better than on her first run at Kempton. She used to be in Ireland but we brought her over here as there were just no races for her."

Hollow Jo (7-2 favourite) followed up on his victory at Kempton last week with a 6lb penalty in the IQ Storage Solutions Handicap.

Micky Fenton steered the John Jenkins-trained six-year-old into the lead over two furlongs out and he gamely repelled all-comers to gain the day by half a length, with Muscari finishing with a late rattle for second.

Hollow Jo gained a clutch of successes at this track last winter and is likely to be kept about his work over the next few months.

"He's a good old stick," said Jenkins. "He's won four times here before and four times on the grass. His owner is keen to run him over hurdles, but I should think we'll just keep him going."
