Manchester City have completed the signing of Swedish goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson.

The 24-year-old has joined City for £2 million from Rennes after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

Isaksson will replace David James at Eastlands following the England international's departure to Portsmouth.

Former Juventus custodian Isaksson is excited about the prospect of playing in England with City.

"It's a big club, there's a lot of good players in the squad and I am really looking forward to playing here," Isaksson told the club's official website.

"I think that the English league is the best in the world. It's tough, but I grew up with it on television in Sweden so it has always been a dream of mine to play in England."

Isaksson is expected to go straight into the side to face Chelsea this weekend in City's opening Premiership clash.
