| Costinha seals Madrid deal |
Atletico Madrid have clinched a deal to sign Portuguese midfielder Costinha on a two-year deal from Russian side Dynamo Moscow. Atletico have also finalised the transfer of Dynamo’s former Porto defender Giourkas Seitaridis.
Costinha, a Champions League winner in 2003 with Porto, had been frozen out at Dynamo after disagreements with the club’s management, and has not played for the club for over six months.
It was reported last month that Atletico had agreed personal terms with Costinha, and the midfielder has since released himself from his contract with Dynamo after claiming that his wages had not been paid in full.
According to the Spanish club’s website, the 32-year-old will complete his medical requirements soon before being officially presented as Atletico’s latest signing.
The midfielder, who is with Portugal’s World Cup squad, joins compatriot Jose Castro at the Vicente Calderon, after the 23-year-old arrived in Madrid on a four-year deal from Academica.
As well as Seitaridis, Atletico, under new manager Javier Aguirre, have also agreed deals for Argentine duo Mariano Pernia from Getafe and 17-year-old wonderkid Sergio Aguero from Independiente as they look to improve on a disappointing 10th place finish in La Liga last season.
