| Joe Hart hits the big time |
Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce has agreed a deal to make Shrewsbury's outstanding young goalkeeper Joe Hart his first signing of the summer.
The 19-year-old will join for an initial fee of £600,000, which depending on his success at the City of Manchester Stadium could rise to £1.5million.
Hart is already an England Under-19 international and defied his age to be named in the Professional Footballers' Association League Two team of the year.
Hart, who made 54 appearances in the Football League for Shrewsbury, has agreed terms on a four-year deal and the signing will give City extra strength in the goalkeeping department.
Hart has been watched by boss Pearce and City goalkeeping coach Tim Flowers, the former England number one, during the recent season.
City chief executive Alistair Mackintosh declared the deal as an indication of the club's intentions.
"Joe's signing reflects the club's commitment to attracting the best young English players," said Mackintosh.
"He has a good deal of professional experience at League Two level for somebody who has only just turned 19." |
