Tottenham have beaten the transfer window deadline to capture Danny Murphy from Charlton Athletic in a deal which could be worth up to £2m.

Spurs had tried to capture Murphy when he was sold by Liverpool to Charlton in 2004, but have now secured their man.

The 29-year-old has made 17 appearances this season, scoring three goals.

Addicks boss Alan Curbishley wanted to keep Murphy but the player signed for Spurs with about 15 minutes left before the transfer window shut.

Murphy joined the Addicks from Liverpool in August 2004 for £2.5m.
