| Sutton ready to pull on Blues jersey |
Birmingham have completed a deal to bring Chris Sutton back to The Premiership from Celtic.
Blues are struggling towards the foot of the Premiership table and manager Steve Bruce had set his sights on adding some quality to his squad in January.
Bruce was alerted to the fact that Sutton was hankering after a return to The Premiership and they stepped in to offer him a deal.
Sutton had been talking to a clutch of Premiership clubs, with Blues winning the race for his signature on Thursday.
The 32-year-old has signed a deal which ties him to the Second City club until the summer, with the forward seemingly mindful of Blues' precarious position.
The former Blackburn man had been a key figure for Celtic since joining the club over five years ago and his departure on a free transfer will leave Gordon Strachan with a major void to fill.
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has thanked Sutton for his service to The Bhoys and wished him well for the remainder of his career.
"Chris has been a magnificent servant to Celtic in the five-and-a-half years he has been here," Lawwell told the club's website. "He has been professional in his dealings and all at Celtic would like to wish him all the best for the future."
Strachan added: "It is obviously a huge disappointment to lose a player of Chris's quality. The club has granted Chris his wish to move on and I would like to wish him all the best for the future."
Celtic are in a much better position in their league than Birmingham and Bruce will hope he can fire them away from trouble.
Sutton's arrival at St Andrews could pave the way for Walter Pandiani to secure a return to Spain, with Espanyol waiting in the wings.
