| United Complete Shipperley Signing |
Sheffield United have completed the capture of Crystal Palace striker Neil Shipperley.
The 30-year-old hit-man has become part of The Eagles' folklore after scoring the goal that took them to The Premiership but has now been adjudged surplus to requirements at Selhurst Park.
Shipperley has inked a two-year deal at Bramall Lane - in a move that has delighted Blades boss Neil Warnock.
In a well travelled career Shipperley has enjoyed spells at Chelsea, Watford, Southampton, Palace, Nottingham Forest, Barnsley and Wimbledon and his new taskmaster is confident the powerful forward will prove his worth next term.
"Whilst this might not be a big money signing I'm absolutely delighted because we have needed someone like Neil since 'The Chief' (Wayne Allison) left,'' Warnock told the club's official website.
"He's a player who can come on and change a game with his strength and experience, and we lacked that in some vital games last season.
"I like the fact that Neil wants to come here. There were six clubs in for him, he spoke to two, but he made it clear to Palace in the middle of last week that he wanted to join Sheffield United. In fact he said that if he wasn't allowed to come here then he would go nowhere and stay at Palace.''
