Everton have suffered yet more bad news after learning that Lee Carsley faces another six weeks on the sidelines.
The Toffees have endured a miserable start to the season and currently sit bottom of the pile in the Premiership.
Boss David Moyes has been hampered by injuries to a number of his senior players and now faces new disappointment over Carsley's plight.
The combative midfielder has been forced to undergo fresh surgery on a persistent knee injury.
He originally went under the surgeon's knife in the summer to resolve a medial ligament complaint.
However, although he was expected to be fit for the start of the new campaign, the 31-year-old suffered a set-back during the club's pre-season trip to Thailand.
He has been working hard to reach full fitness ever since, but Everton's medical staff became concerned the injury was no longer healing as they wanted.
As a result it was decided that a second operation was the best course of action and the former Coventry and Derby man must now set out on the long road back to fitness all over again.
The Toffees are hoping that Carsley could be ready for first-team action by November. |
