Stuttgart president Erwin Staudt has warned manager Giovanni Trapattoni that he must put the struggling team back on track in the next few weeks.
Staudt had been hopeful that Trapattoni would be able to lead the Swabians back into the UEFA Champions League, but the club remain stuck in midtable, frustrating their fans with a number of dismal performances.
The Stuttgart president has long defended the former Benfica and Italy coach against growing criticism in the German media, but he seems to have lost his patience after watching the team get booed off the pitch following their 1-1 home draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.
"Everyone knows that we have reached the bottom line and are running out of time to turn things around," Staudt stressed.
"We can't wait for success to return in the distant future, the next few weeks are going to be decisive."
Stuttgart's next two games are a Uefa Cup tie against Rennes and a trip to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, and defeat in both is likely to lead to Trapattoni, who has reportedly fallen out with a number of his players, being shown the door. |
