Italian football champions Juventus have been relegated to Serie B because of a match-fixing scandal.
Lazio and Fiorentina also were demoted to the second division, after an Italian Football Federation ruling. AC Milan will remain in Serie A but was given a 15-point penalty.
They were accused of conspiring to rig matches in the top division during the 2004/05 season.
Juventus was at the centre of the scandal, which erupted in May, and hung over Italian players throughout the World Cup.
Phone taps revealed the club's former general manager Luciano Moggi had discussed refereeing appointments with federation officials.
Italy's World Cup triumph in Germany prompted calls for a general amnesty, but federation commissioner Guido Rossi has consistently rejected the idea.
All those found guilty can appeal, but the appeals process must be completed by July 25 - the deadline set by UEFA for the FIGC to submit the list of teams for next season's Champions League and UEFA Cup competitions. |
