Celtic striker Chris Sutton is in talks with English Premiership clubs hoping to sign him at the end of the season.
BBC Scotland understands five sides, including struggling Birmingham, are interested in signing Sutton, 32.
His agent Tony McGill told BBC Scotland he and Sutton spoke to interested parties on Wednesday.
But he stressed: "Anyone hoping to do business before the end of the season would have to speak to Celtic and to my knowledge, that hasn't happened."
Earlier McGill had described the interested clubs as a "mixture of top clubs, middle-ranking clubs and others".
"I really don't know what will happen at the moment, there has nothing been decided either way," he added.
"Chris could sign a pre-contract at one club and play out the rest of his contract at Celtic.
"That's within the Fifa rules and we haven't ruled that possibility out. But you never know what can happen, things change so quickly in football."
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has already admitted that he fears Sutton could leave in January because of a "hitch" in his contract.
Sutton has been hampered by injury this season and has failed to hold down a regular starting place.
