Celtic capture Roy Keane  Latest Transfer

Celtic have beaten off competition from a host of clubs to the capture of Roy Keane.

Keane had the pick of a number of Premiership clubs and was also courted by Spanish giants Real Madrid, after leaving Manchester United last month

However, he has opted to follow his heart and move to Glasgow and signed a deal until the summer of 2007 on Thursday.

A statement released on the club's website read: "Celtic are delighted to announce that Roy Keane has signed for the club.

"The self-confessed Celtic fan has fulfilled a long-held dream by joining The Hoops and his contract will see him remain at Celtic Park initially until June 2007.

"Roy Keane will be officially unveiled as a Celtic player at a press conference at Celtic Park today, Thursday, December 15, at 1.30pm."

Keane had seemed certain to head for Spain with Real Madrid, as reports claimed a deal had effectively been agreed, but some negative press coverage in the Spanish capital concerning the veteran's suitability to life in La Primera prompted Bernabeu chairman Florentino Perez to take stock of his options.

Real's hesitance allowed Celtic to step in and they beat the likes of Bolton and Everton to the 34-year-old's signature.
