Rangers continued on their self destructive run tonight in Bratislava when they had to settle for a draw to Artmedia in the Champions League.
The Scottish champions got off to an excellent start when on form striker, Dado Prso, headed them into the lead from a corner in the third minute, but it was short lived as the Rangers defence hit the self destruct button when they failed to make a simple clearance, which allowed Balazs Borbely to level, four minutes later.
Rangers found themselves on the back foot for a few minutes after the equaliser but steadied the nerves and continued to play their impressive attacking style and they managed to go into the dressing room at half-time with the lead after Steve Thompson headed a superb cross from Prso passed the Bratislavia keeper.
The second half started as the first finished, with Rangers taking the game to the Slovakians, but it was the home team that managed to find an equaliser after another horrendous mistake by Rodriguez. The Frenchman appeared to be shying away from clearances all game, urging his keeper to do it for him, but on this occassion it went wrong. Instead of allowing Ronald Waterreus to make the clearance, the defender was caught in two minds and cleared it into the path of an oncoming Jan Kozak who slotted it into the net.
Rangers kept the pressure on the home team and came close to a late win but Peter Lovenkrands failed to hit the target on what was an open goal, in the dying minutes.
Rangers may feel that a draw was a good result as it puts them in second place in the group but when they look back on events, they will realise they had a good chance to secure a passage into the second group stages.
Inter managed to come back from a goal down to Porto in Italy, which keeps them on top, with Artmedia sitting in third and Porto sitting at the bottom with three points.
Rangers travel to Portugal in two weeks time knowing a win will be required, but if the defence make a repeat of tonights showing, they will be lucky to escape a heavy defeat.
