Hearts boss George Burley has praised the character of his early-season heroes as they showed impressive resolve to rescue a 2-2 draw with Falkirk on Sunday.
The men from Edinburgh did see their winning run of eight games ended at The Falkirk Stadium although a late Steven Pressley brace meant they are still unbeaten and sitting proudly at the top of the SPL table.
Usurping the Old Firm even at this early stage in the season is a significant achievement for Burley after only moving to Tynecastle in the summer, and he was glowing in his assessment of the players who have lifted Hearts into such a lofty position.
The draw keeps Burley's side three points ahead of Gordon Strachan's Celtic, although the former Derby boss said he felt as though his side had come away with all three points after getting out of jail.
"It felt like a win because when you're 2-0 down with little more than 10 minutes to go anything is a bonus," said Burley.
"What can you say about the character, energy and desire of this side?
"Falkirk were the better side in the first half but after the break we were better an deserved the point.
"I asked the players at half-time to shown me their character and they did that, with Steven leading by example." |
