Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito are on course to fight for a unified version of the welterweight world title following weekend wins in Atlantic City.
Cotto destroyed the previously unbeaten Carlos Quintana in six rounds on Saturday to claim the WBA title recently vacated by Briton Ricky Hatton.
Meanwhile Margarito beat Joshua Clottey on points on the same bill to retain his WBO version of the crown.
Promoter Bob Arum says he can see the fight being made at some stage in 2007 and Cotto is certainly prepared to take the bout.
"As everyone saw tonight, Margarito is a great champion and he's been a champion for a long time," Cotto said. "Whoever they put in front of me, I'm ready to fight."
